Shipping Policy

Last Updated: December 2025

Getting your order to you safely, legally, and on time is our priority. Because we sell regulated products, our shipping practices follow strict guidelines to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws. Here’s what you need to know.

How We Ship

Austere Outfitters is the seller of record for every order. Depending on the product and your location, fulfillment may be handled by our internal team or by authorized distribution partners. We select carriers—including UPS, FedEx, and USPS—based on product type, destination, and legal requirements.

Shipping times vary depending on product availability, your location, and any additional processing required for regulated items. Most in-stock items ship within one to three business days, though serialized items and certain restricted products may require additional time.

Firearms and Serialized Items

Federal law requires that all firearms, frames, and receivers ship to a licensed Federal Firearms License (FFL) dealer—not directly to your home. There are no exceptions.

When you purchase a serialized item, you’ll select your preferred FFL during checkout. Before ordering, verify that your chosen dealer is willing to accept the transfer. Once the item arrives, you’ll complete the required ATF Form 4473, present valid government-issued photo identification, and pass all applicable background checks before taking possession.

Transfer fees are your responsibility. FFL dealers set their own fees for processing transfers, and these charges are not included in your order total. Contact your dealer in advance if you want to confirm their pricing.

If a transfer cannot be completed—whether due to a failed background check, customer ineligibility, or dealer refusal—the firearm will be returned to us. Refunds in these cases will be issued minus applicable restocking and shipping fees.

Age Verification

Federal and state laws establish minimum age requirements for firearm and ammunition purchases.

18 years or older: Rifles, shotguns, and long gun ammunition.

21 years or older: Handguns, handgun ammunition, frames, receivers, and certain regulated accessories.

By placing an order, you certify that you meet all applicable age requirements. We reserve the right to request verification before shipping.

Ammunition Shipping

Ammunition shipments require an adult signature upon delivery. We cannot ship ammunition to PO Boxes.

Some states impose additional requirements. In California, for example, ammunition may need to ship to a licensed vendor or FFL rather than directly to your home. We’ll notify you during checkout if restrictions apply to your location.

State and Local Restrictions

Firearms, ammunition, and accessories are heavily regulated, and laws vary significantly by state—and sometimes by city or county. The following is a summary of major restrictions, but it is not exhaustive. You are responsible for knowing the laws that apply where you live.

California restricts certain firearm configurations, prohibits magazines over 10 rounds, and requires ammunition to ship to licensed vendors in most cases.

New York prohibits direct-to-consumer ammunition shipments and imposes restrictions on firearms and magazines.

New Jersey limits magazine capacity to 10 rounds, restricts handgun ammunition sales, and may require a Firearm Purchaser Identification Card.

Massachusetts enforces a strict handgun roster, magazine limits, and additional ammunition verification requirements.

Connecticut requires eligibility certificates for certain firearms and restricts magazine capacity and ammunition sales.

Maryland maintains a handgun roster and prohibits magazines over 10 rounds.

Illinois requires a Firearm Owner’s Identification (FOID) card for most purchases. Chicago and Cook County impose additional local restrictions.

Colorado, Vermont, Washington, and Oregon all enforce magazine capacity limits.

District of Columbia maintains strict prohibitions on firearms and magazines.

If you order a product that cannot legally be shipped to your jurisdiction, we’ll cancel the item and issue a refund.

Shipping Delays

Weather events, carrier disruptions, supply chain issues, and high order volume can all cause delays beyond our control. While we work to fulfill orders as quickly as possible, we cannot guarantee delivery dates and are not responsible for carrier delays.

Lost or Stolen Packages

If your package is lost or stolen after shipment, contact us as soon as possible. We’ll work with the carrier to file a claim and resolve the issue, but final resolution timelines depend on the carrier’s investigation process.

For high-value orders, we recommend selecting a shipping option with signature confirmation or arranging delivery to a secure location.

Tracking Your Order

Once your order ships, you’ll receive tracking information by email. Some shipments—particularly serialized items—may require additional processing time before tracking becomes available.

If you haven’t received tracking within five business days of placing your order, contact us at support@austereoutfitters.com.
